Can I get money for my use motor oil?

I know things can be done to used motor oil to make it usable in some other way.

I'm a little sketchy on the specifics of it all, but it is worth something, so where can I take it for cash money.

I think they should pay people to get it much like aluminum cans and other precious minerals.

u have to take it to an oil refinery....it's a place that buys used oil....here is the problem....most only buy in bulk...and from dealerships and the like....if u know anyone at (jiffy lube...etc) ask them where they sell their old oil...or where they return their old oil to .then ask for a cell # and call......but u have to remember most only buy from companies...but if u know someone...u can ask them..and set up an arragement where u can put ur oil with theirs...if u got tons of it....but small sales r hardest to make money offf of...and it depends on where u live...if its legal in ur state

There are several components to motor oil breakdown. 1. Contamination 2. Additive exhaustion 3. Molecular breakdown You can somewhat fix 1. and 2. by filtration and replenishment of the additives respectively, but there is little you can can do to reverse 3. which is caused by the breaking of the long hydrocarbon chains reducing the viscosity. In other words, trying to reuse motor oil with some home refining method is a waste of time. You may end up with clean looking oil that won't properly protect your engine.

some companies will recycle it all depends of the companies around your city. I know Safety Kleen went to repair shops and drain their oil traps but I don't think the shop was getting paid for it, more like a charge to "dispose" of it. engine oil is considered Hazardous waste by the landfill authority. so even if you handle to collect a lot you'd have to invest in material handling training, spill handling training + fees or surcharges, equipment... if you want to go commercial. it can be profitable it all depends of how much it will cost to run the business vs how much you'd be paid for it.

last time I checked steel was at around $79/ton. but that was a while back IDK today. and as you can see $79 for+- 2000lbs of steel is not much unless you own the local scrap yard or a car junk yard.

It is not as easy to handle as dry material. You have spills and such. If you want to get value for your used oil, you could get an oil fired heater for your shop.

It can be, and is re-refined, but unless you have large quantities nobody will pay you for it.
