I think humility should be called on when looking at that question: There is some evidence that spirituality is hard-wired into are brains. So are some biases when looking at evidence which call into question the Scientific Method, Conservative economics and other examples of so-called "objectivity". Thus how different we are from beasts may be open to more questions than most people are comfortable with.

The story goes that a great zen Master was sitting on his porch when he saw a fearsome looking Samurai and his dog walking up. He was hardly reassured when the Samurai, with deep agitation, said, "Master I have come to you because this question has been driving me crazy. Does my dog have a Buddah Nature?" Nevertheless, the dog seemed friendly enough so he stroked his head and asked, "Dog, does the Master have a Buddah Nature?"

Buddah Nature is not love of God. I know that. But spirituality is hard wired into the brain according to some recent research, and we should look at questions like do you and I know what love is? We can be friends with elephants. I have been to the zoo with small children relatively recently and can expect to again. This is a good question. But not for a list, I think. Ask an elephant.

Like all creatures, some will, and some won't. You can get a sense of this, however.

Some like groups of people will have a violent temper, want to hurt others,

you have seen/heard about elephants that terrorize tribes in various countries.

Other elephants just live in peace, and are very willing to help humans,

and we hope those humans are good masters also. Again, some are,

some aren't. So, some will love God. Just as trees, and every other thing

that was created, some will return that love, some reject. Sounds ridiculous

to many, but when you read, say 'The secret life of plants' or check out how

amazing sheep, pigs and all creatures are, then it becomes clearer.

Depends on when you ask them.

Ask them around high noon while they're snacking and they aren't too indisposed to the higher beings. However, ask the herd after some poachers have come through and slaughtered a few for their tusks and they can be downright ungrateful. But it is certainly understandable.

When it shines, you get the credit. When it rains, you get the blame. Cest la vie.
