Interquartile Range Process?

724 786 670 760 300 187 190 345 456 732 891 879 324

Rearranged:

187 190 300 324 345 456 670 724 732 760 786 879 891

I found the mean to be 557.23, now I need to find the Interquartile range.

If I take Q3 - Q1, it happens to be 760 - 312 = 448

Is this correct?

(The book says it's 461)

Update:

I thought Quartiles are the median of the portion.

From 670 to 891

The median would be 760, why would find the average of 760 & 786?

    Your book is right.

    Q1 = 312, as you calculated.

    But Q3 is the 10.5 th value, i.e. the value between 760 and 786, i.e 773, not 760!!!

    Thus, IQR = Q3 - Q1 = 773 - 312 = 461...

    If you want to, you can remember that for an odd number of data:

    Q1 = (n+1)/4 th term and Q3 = (n+1)*3/4 th term; (n is the number of values you have!)
