Laptop lcd not working, but external monitor works.?

I have an HP laptop that was just working just fine the other day. When I turn on the laptop, the screen is lit up black. I hooked up an external monitor to the laptop and its booting/working normally. Would a bad lcd cause a black screen, or would this be an lcd inverter issue? I also happen to notice the ground plug on the adapter is sawed off. Possible cause?

This sounds like a backlight problem, specially since your laptop LCD stays black from the start. A confirmation of this is that your external monitor is working. This means that the rest of your laptop is fine, just the backlight needs to be replaced.

i wouldn't be counted if the workstation reveal continues to be linked or not. If I connect my workstation to an exterior video reveal (or HDTV) this is already on, my workstation immediately boots on the exterior reveal and turns off the workstation reveal.
