You don't seem to have very much experience. The best advice I can give you is to find and join a club.
First they will teach you how to deal with and maintain your equipment, Second, you will not learn how to fly on your own. All you will do is create a hazard for other people around you. Flying is not difficult, but you do need some assistance to learn how to do it. Would you try to fly a full size plane without instruction and assistance? R/C is the same.
It you are in Canada, look up MAAC on the internet. In the U.S. it is the AMA. In other countries, I don't know. There are more restrictions in some countries such as in England, than there are in the U.S. and Canada.
Find a club. They are always willing to take new people in and teach them, and it is the best way for you to learn the hobby. Without assistance, you will just find the hobby frustrating.
This is a popular hobby, and there are clubs near most cities and towns in the U.S. and Canada, and I am sure most other countries as well. With the proper guidance, you will find this to be a very enjoyable hobby.
If you e-mail me, and tell me where you are, I can try to find someone to help you, in your area.

First, follow what Gotno said.
To answer your question, the flight box as well as the power panel is powered by a 12 volt battery.
A battery checker is exactly that. It tells you how much energy the battery has left before being re-charged.
The battery is charged with a battery charger that is made for the particular battery you have.
I would like to suggest to you, that you go to the following website and spend a few hours scanning the site. It will accurately explain everything you want to know. I have been buying from them since they first opened back in 1972, (I think that was the year)

Good luck and have fun.
Oh, one last note. STAY AWAY FROM LIPO POWERED MODELS! See the AMA emergency bulletin on them.
