Wanting to drop out of school, help?

I want to drop out of high school. And sure, I did all the things, got my friends opinions on it, my (blood) father's and my guidance counselors opinions. I maturly brought it up and suggested it, to my parents. My parents say no. And I really want to change that...

MY PLAN: Work part time at Best Buy. Save money until i'm 18. Then start working full time. And as badly as I do in school, I can really do work and be motivated to do well while doing a job. My main point of this is being a DJ. Since I was 15 i've been producing my own music, and played at a lot of friends parties and the first time I got paid. 100 bucks, for a few hours! I went back two times that week, I made 300 bucks in a week. I wan't to be a DJ and its my passion, my dream. I did the math, and I'm aware that it'll put me at only near 21,600 a year. But with my full time job at Best Buy I can push that over 26,500. And for at least four years after school I will have a roommate to split 50-50% of an apartment with! My bud is going to college in town and said he'd wanna room up so he's not going 100% for a place. Neither of us would need cable. In my own opinion...the entire plan sounds like..LOADS of fun. Responsibility, of course. But suitable and I would love it!

Its all I really want, And I think thats not a bad plan.

Does your high school have a co-op program or work/study? The way that works is that you spend half a day at school, and the other half at a job. I think the job somehow is applied toward your education (not sure how that works). But what I'm wondering is if you were able to make it so your work was actually part of your education, could you finish HS?

Likewise, can you do anything with your classes to make them more applicable to what you want to do for a living? As a DJ, you'll basically be running your own business, so you'll need to know some basic accounting, marketing, business management, and computer skills. Does your school offer classes or a program that would allow you to focus on this?

It may be that if your classes are more applicable to what you want to do for work, you'll do a bit better in them. And that may allow you to please both yourself and your parents.

BTW, a lot of places will hire you now, as a student, for a part-time job. But without a HS diploma or GED, you won't be hired full-time; and without being in school, they may not want to hire you. You'd need to check the policies at Best Buy.

The only way you can get your parents to agree to this is to listen to them, and find out why they don't want you to drop out. You'd then need to address their concerns, to their satisfaction - and that won't be easy to do.
