Baking experience for the CIA?
So I am 15 and want to go to the Culinary Institute of America (St. Helena, CA) for baking and cake decorating. They say that you need 9 months of hands on experience to get in with at least 10-15 hours a week. I thought of working at a local bakery, but I have little to no experience (until I go to NY in the summer for a day at CIA to get the experience of about 5 hours). What do I do to get the experience at a local bakery? Is it hard? Is it worth getting paid minimum wage or not even paid at all? If I tell them that I don't even have to get paid, will they hire me? Do I need experience before I start work? What kind of work will I be doing? I need hands on experience. Thanks!
No actually I'm a man...

I just visited the CIA a couple of months ago. Your best bet is to look into a vocational technology school near you. I go to Northland Career Center for culinary arts in missouri. It gave me 2 years of culinary experience and my high school paid for it. when I graduate I will have a high school diploma and a vocational degree. Also just try to work in any kind of kitchen it doesn't have to be a bakery for it to count towards your experience. Good luck maybe ill see you there.

It would be a big help, check with the grocery stores, hospital even a donut shop will give you the basics, it is the weighting, using the mixers and ovens, formula to make items and the knowledge of the bakery/pastry shop they would appreciate you having, it makes it less confusing, when I started as chef in the 1970's I had attended a high school here n Canada with a Foodservice program, I had 3 years training plus 4 out of school work experiences and I worked for the old Ponderosa Steakhouses and McDonald's to.
Check to see if there are any high school with Vocational training in your area, this would be as good.
