  • How to find my GPA??

I have a numerical GPA of 86.55 right now as of freshman and sophomore year. If I get an average of 97 this year, do I average together

    3.1 + 3.1 + 4.0 which averages to a 3.4

    or

    86.55 + 86.55 + 97 which averages to a 90

So do you average 4.0 grades together, or average numerical together THEN convert afterwards?

  • Going to a good high school?

At the University of South Florida, 95% of incoming freshman attended a public high school. I go to a good private high school. Will this help or hurt in getting accepted?

  • Windsurfing on vacation?

So I'm going to St. Maarten in a couple months. I REALLY want to try windsurfing but everyone is telling me that it is extremely difficult, especially in a 1 week vacation. However, I found out that I can get 3 hours of lessons one day, then the next day go on a day trip to Anguilla to windsurf all day, but on the day trip there is no lesson, there is only assistance. If I have a 3 hour lesson the day before, would I be able to go the next day from 9am to 4pm? I'm not looking to do tricks or anything, I just want to get going.

  • Do you have to play the clarinet before doing bass clarinet?

I want to play the bass clarinet but have never done regular. I know it would be easier with some experience but I really just want to play bass clarinet. I have no problem practicing a few hours a day.

  • What instrument should I play?

I want to play in my HS band next year but have a question. Which instrument should I play? I am interested in the saxophone and the bassoon, and would not mind playing the clarinet. I know the bassoon is hard but it seems like a cool instrument. The sax is my second choice. I want to play a woodwind. Any other recommendations would be great. The only thing holding me back is that I would love to play jazz. I know that that is not very common for bassoons.

  • Playing bassoon in the high school band?

I played trumpet for about 3 months in 4th grade and hated it. I played piano from 1st grade to 5th grade but my teacher couldn't teach anymore because he was going back to school. I am in high school now and am fascinated by the bassoon. I love the sound it makes and everything about it. I will practice as much as I need to be great. I learned to ride a unicycle well by practicing for about 2 hours a day last summer (I know too much time on my hands). My point is that I will do anything to succeed at this instrument. If I practice through the summer and get private lessons, can I play in my high school band next fall? They don't have any bassoon players but are always willing to take new members into the band. Can I just find some sort of improvised piece or notes to go along with their playing? Also, how do I go about finding out if I can do this?

  • Baking experience for the CIA?

So I am 15 and want to go to the Culinary Institute of America (St. Helena, CA) for baking and cake decorating. They say that you need 9 months of hands on experience to get in with at least 10-15 hours a week. I thought of working at a local bakery, but I have little to no experience (until I go to NY in the summer for a day at CIA to get the experience of about 5 hours). What do I do to get the experience at a local bakery? Is it hard? Is it worth getting paid minimum wage or not even paid at all? If I tell them that I don't even have to get paid, will they hire me? Do I need experience before I start work? What kind of work will I be doing? I need hands on experience. Thanks!

  • Hang Glide or Paraglide?

Okay so I have the opportunity to do one or the other. I plan to move to the Caribbean in the next 3 years. I plan on sticking with whatever I do so I want to be able to do it in the Caribbean. I am going to Grenada so it is a mountainous terrain. Is one or the other better? Can you do one in the Caribbean and the other not? Any advice would help. I'm in the USA North-East right now so there are mountains here too. Thanks

  • How do I get a job on a cruise ship?

I heard somebody say that the only way to get a job on a ship is to know somebody who works on one. Is this true? Is it worth trying? What are my chances? I am young, get decent grades, am very social, and work hard.

    Do they provide housing?

    What do you do?

Do you get any time off?

Answer as many as possible please.
