What instrument should I play?

I want to play in my HS band next year but have a question. Which instrument should I play? I am interested in the saxophone and the bassoon, and would not mind playing the clarinet. I know the bassoon is hard but it seems like a cool instrument. The sax is my second choice. I want to play a woodwind. Any other recommendations would be great. The only thing holding me back is that I would love to play jazz. I know that that is not very common for bassoons.

I play the bassoon and this year i played in a jazz band at my school. Bassoon is hard, its not for a beginner. I did two years of flute before i could play bassoon. Also the saxophone has many different kinds. Theres the barri sax, alto sax, and the tennor sax. But i do believe that the saxophone is eaiser than bassoon.

The bassoon is not only hard but it is expensive too. The reeds cost about $15 and most bassoon run around 8000-15000 and are fine quality. a good quality bassoon is around 25000 dollars. There are some bassoons out there from 1000-4000 US dollars. So if you do end up playing bassoon and the bassoon is the schools don't treat it like its a piece of trash.

I know I'm only a flute player, but in my opinion, saxophone was much easier to play then clarinet (I played bari sax for one year). I think it's because saxophones have a bigger mouthpiece so the embouchure (the way you form your mouth) isn't as tight. If you really want to play bassoon, it's better have played clarinet or oboe for a few years first.

I play tenor sax and its a lot of fun. i listen to lots of ska jazz and reggae though so it works out good. the bassoon takes more work to play but sounds real cool and not all hs bands have a bassoon. if i were you i would suggest sax though.

edit: contrabass clarinet is cool too. its really tall and really low. my buddy plays it but i think its pretty expensive

If you like something that's low, looks cool, and is easy to play, try Bass Clarinet.

It looks like a clarinet and a sax mixed together, and has a lower sound, a little bit like a basson. It is also really easy, compared to others.
