My neighbor runs his anoying pump all day and he doesnt swim in his pool. He only uses the pool 3 to 4 days a year when his grand kids come and swim but the pump runs from 7:45am to 5pm. He sais he has one if those outomatic vacums that sweep the bottom if the pool. How many hours does it really need ?

You neighbor is running his pump a bit over 9 hours per day. Some pool pumps move enough water to totally turn over all of the water 3 times per day ... once every 8 hours. Others will filter all of the water only once every 16 hours. So, your neighbor is running his somewhere around the minimum amount per day to keep his pool water clean and to vacuum his pool. If he is going to have a pool, he must run it or the chemicals will get out of balance and algae will begin to grow which can do major damage to the concrete pool shell. If the chemicals get out of balance, damage can occur to the circulation system.
