Installing Games to D: Drive?

I got a new comp, and the C drive is a little small. The D: drive, however, is about 1 TB. I'm trying to install Sims 3 to the D: drive, and I have to create my own file path to do so. The D: drive has no folders in it whatsoever.

I tried to install it and run it, but when I bring up the launcher, it says that the game installed incorrectly. How do I install games to the D: drive? What am I doing incorrectly?

Update:

I just decided to shrink my D drive and expand my C drive. Hopefully this fixes all problems :)

I personally haven't tried The Sims 3 big coincidence since I am going to buy it this weekend. Anyways, If the game gives you an Advanced Install Option use it. Create a " Program Files " folder in your D drive. Just choose the path with the installer. If you can choose the path then there is nothing you can do. Some games just Install Into C no matter what you do. Also, make sure you have a my documents folder since the game probably creates a directory in there. Feel free to message me. Hope I helped ;)
