No sound will play on my computer...is it because of this win32 error or a virus or what?

Okay so at first only internet sounds from youtube videos and other things like that wouldn't play through my speakers. But for a while now absolutely NO SOUND from any mp3, video, or anything on my computer will play. And its not the speakers because I have them hooked up correctly and I tested them on another computer and they work. I keep getting those "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" errors popping up and the details say that its a svchost.exe problem? and I'm always getting errors pop-ups from svchost.exe as well. What can I do to fix this??

Update:

Its not on mute I already checked that many times.

Update 2:

And i'm on windows XP

i will guess you are running vista because i had this same problem on my e-machines. i had to go to the manufacters site and download the latest Drivers for the soundboard thats built in to the MB and i had to Run windows update. after both were done i have yet to have the problem again. but all i use my computer for is magicjack so the only sound that comes through is the ringing of the phone sometimes.
