Which would you get? Why?

I've been looking into "toy" breeds. I've narrowed it down to the Toy Fox Terrier, The Min Pin, or the Rat Terrier. My requirements are easy, I want a very small dog, but trainable, dog with a low maintenance coat. I'm hoping height dog for flyball so I'll probably persue a rescue that I know has ball drive, and not a puppy, but I'm having a hard time deciding which breed I like the best. They're all very similar. So which would you choose? And why?

Update:

I don't have enough energy for a terrier? Um, that's kinda why I play flyball (and do obedience and agility and all kinds of stuff) with my dogs. And why I learned to teach a dog to catch a frisbee. Because, bascially I AM lazy, but they get really good exersise while I direct lol!

My family raised Toy Fox Terriers for years.. my T.F.T - my BABY GIRL - died at the age of 19 years and 2 months. they seem to be very healthy dogs that live forever! all 3 breeds are extremely hyper but from what I have seen in my experience is T.F.T's are just so incredible smart... my girl could learn something in a day and never forget it. they are so amazing. but none of our dogs liked water... not sure if Rat Terriers or Min Pin's like water at all.. but they all seem to like balls and activities so should be fun!

The terriers might be better at flyball, but I think the Mini Pin's are cute (know a couple of people who have them) and they are a bundle of energy. Their coat is very short and slick, so very little maintenance is required.

Min pins are very active tough little guys. Read their history on the Internet. They have nice long legs and run like the wind. I do not know about their ball drive. They are great little guys. Good luck.

  • personally, I would go with the toy fox terrier, they seem more agile to me. And I don't have very good experiences with rat terriers (although I don't have many experiences with them)

Min Pins are VERY HYPER!! They are basically a small guard dog. But they have a very smooth coat.

    Source(s): I have a Min Pin.

I'm pretty sure you don't have enough energy for a terrier. Please do not get one, it will end up in a shelter. All of those breeds are SOOO HIGH ENERGY, they aren't companion dogs at all, they are ratting dogs and dogs bred to get rodents out of the ground - they need a JOB! They're just tiny, but not really a lapdog or anything. I think you should get a Bichon, they are so smart, no shedding hair, super great.
