Will our dog be able to walk while recovering from ACL surgery?

We have a border collie (dog) that has torn ACL's in both back knees. Soon, our plan is for the dog to have surgery on one knee at a time. While the dog is recovering from surgery on one knee, would the dog likely be able to walk on its remaining three legs?

Update:

The dog is about 5 years old. The surgery process has not yet begun, and she currently walks okay on four legs with the two torn ACL's (but we cannot allow her to run until the surgery is finished). So I'm wondering if she would still be able to walk on just three legs once the surgery process begins.

Yes. She will require physical therapy, but will actually be encouraged to slowly and easily use the leg that was surgically repaired. She'll have some pain, but your vet should give you medication to give her to help with the pain and inflammation.

Do exactly what your vet instructs you to do and your dog will recover successfully.

    Good luck!

why would it not be able to walk on 3 legs? i assume the pup had before when limping on 3 legs from the pain from the torn ACL. ACL dogs will limp around for weeks after the surgery and need patience and time.
