The temperatures are (approximately!) 180 deg F on low and 195 deg F on high. The difference in cooking times is approximately 2:1 (i.e. each hour on high is equivalent to 2 hours on low). Bear in mind that this a very loose equivalence, and cooking times are not nearly as critical with slow cookers as with oven and stovetop cooking.

I have 5 slow cookers, two with automatic timing and "shift-to-warm" features. One has a temperature probe, for "shift-to-warm" based on internal temperature. Best thing since sliced bread! Truly amazing what you can do with these cookers!

They vary according to brand and quality. Use a meat thermometer to find out. The Low setting should normally take 5-8 hours to fully cook, the High setting 3-5 hours (depending on contents.) Both settings are hot enough to kill any bacteria lingering in the raw food.

rule of thumb is usually have what you're making on a low setting for 8-10hrs*..........IF using the high* setting...it takes 1/2 the time..so for every hour it's cooking on high...it's as if it were cooking it for 2hrs* so in 4 or 5 hrs your meal would be cooked*
