Why does my 1997 Ford Escort need a new brake light switch every 6-8 weeks?

I've owned this car for just about a year now and in that time I've gone through six brake light switches. About every six to eight weeks the car will no longer go into reverse because the brake light switch dies and the brake lights don't work. I go to the auto parts store, get a new switch, install it, and then a few weeks later do it all over again. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there is something wrong with my car. I find it difficult to believe that I've just gotten six bad switches in a row. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for looking!

apparently your not installing it right as going into reverse shouldn't be a symptom of a bad brake light switch, when you install the switch press the brake pedal down all the way with your one hand and then push the brake light switch in as far as it will go and then pull the brake pedal back as far as you can pull it back against the switch to set it properly.

Andy says bring one of the old brake switches with you tomorrow to dinner so he can test it--he doesnt think its the switch just may be out of adjustment or something else

the lads are suited, it is on the brake pedal. This change is actual undesirable, must be damaging layout. even although, the stable ingredient is you do no longer could purchase it from Ford Stealership. Autozone have it decrease than $10!

like the previous person said, check fuses and simple electronic things, i would also check any electrical connections and make sure they are clean, you can clean them with WD 40 and you can put petrolium jelly on them
