It's mean, but do you find it funny when one religious person tries to discredit another's religion?

Oh the irony...

It is a competition as to who can convert the most people. They are rivals like Burger King and McDonalds, (I'm personally more fond of Burger King.) Like a manager of a store, a priest must be good at attracting people, the better public speakers make the best priests. The priest that can get the most attention, gets paid better by his church, who make money from the people he is attracting. (From politics to business. Is there any room for a god even?) So to discredit another religion only strengthens yours, (sort of.) Look at advertising in some places. Pepsi will show a boy buying two cokes to stand on so he can reach the pepsi at the vender. BMW will advertise their new steering by saying their new car beats the bends (Benz.) It started with a civilasation trying to govern and galvanise their people. The more people they had fighting for the same cause, the stronger they were. (Patriotism? Propoganda?) The Nazi's painted ugly pictures of Jews in WWII, were they true? Only to the Nazis they were, which galvanised their people into ******* up europe. It al came to a peak during the crusades. Everyone wanted Israel because it sits and the crossroads of 3 continents. Of course their gods were going to say it belonged to them. How else were the leaders going to get thousands of people to attack a city and possibly die in the process. Firstly, by convincing them they are fighting for a God, and that that god had promised them something, and if they wanted it, they must honour their god and go to war. So when people challenge another's religion, using their own as the basis, is nothing new. The saddest part is history records it, religious texts record it, yet religious folk can't seem to work out the pattern. We all know history repeats itself. After thousands of years you'd think people would wisen up to wh they are fighting exactly, but some don't. That is when it is really sad. I guess, the humour comes from the neutral's perspective like you have suggested. So long as an islamic guy isn't blowing up Christians and church goers arenn't executing scientists again, then yeah, it is funny.

I find it especially funny when they all belong to the same base faith but merely practice/worship in different ways. You don't see Pagans and Heathens acting that way because we're more into personal spiritual growth than social control and therefore do not feel the need to force others to agree with us or make them look bad because they call Odin "Woden" or "Wotan" and don't celebrate Walpurgisnacht.

I think the followers of any faith who go out of their way to discredit any other faith really discredit their own much more than they realize. That goes double if they're trying to discredit, malign or otherwise harass or insult someone who follows the same dude they do but in a different way.

    We all can be religious

A sign of a religious person is when it is easier for him to be right than to love.

You know, we don’t have to look far to discover that we are usually doing the exact thing we are judging others for.-;)

Yes, and find it sad at the same time - it always sounds like a rather pathetic ´My speculation is better than your speculation´.
