I am wearing my mom's vintage prom dress?

Question

The dress is beautiful (or at least I think it is), but I am not sure whether or not I really want to wear it. 
It is long, coming to the ground.
It is off-white and has a corset-like top and flows downward from there. 
It has lace and some floral pattern but the majority of it is a creamy white color with gold stitching. 

I am stuck between feeling too costumy (the dress looks like something straight out of the hippie days) and being really pretty in a vintage dress.
Do you guys have an opinion?
And if I do wear it, should I play up the fact that it looks like a hippie dress or should I try to make it look more modern (and how)?

If the dress looks a bit vintage, dress it up with some modern accessories, get a modern hairstyle, wear modern shoes, etc. If you love the dress, that's all that matters.

That would be really cool, but try to make it look more modern... Pick a really modern hairdo, wear super chic makeup, get modern/chunky jewelry, and get sleek shoes... Try looking up "how to make a vintage prom dress look modern" that might help :]

I think it would make your mom feel really proud for you to wear her dress. You should try and make it a little modern. Maybe play it up with jewelry.

play up the fact it is a hippy dress, it not only looks like one it is one, have fun with it.  I bet you will be beautiful

if you like it the way it is then leave it! i think it sounds pretty, at my prom i saw some old school dresses, they looked good! and you can never be too costumy for prom!! Wear it if you like it but if you dont think its for you then choose something else, but i think it sounds nice :)
