What is the name of this movie?

I watched it as a kid and only remember parts of it.

I think the plot was about a meteor coming close to Earth. There was a girl and guy who stayed the night in the film booth at a movie theater when the meteor passed.

I think everyone who was not protected by some kind of element turned into dust or became some kind of monster/zombie.

I really have no idea what it was called and most of the film. I want to watch it again. Any help would be great.

I think it was made in the late 80's early 90's
