Atheists, I have a friendly question?
Do you enjoy any fiction that is religion-based? I'm talking about movies, books, TV like The Devil's Advocate, The Exorcist, TV's Supernatural, even Jesus Christ Superstar or Bruce Almighty?
Be nice, please, I'm only referring to fiction that was written to be sold as fiction, not anyone's holy texts.

I am fascinated by religion - absolutely fascinated by it. So of course. That´s why I´m here so often. I really enjoy non-fiction religious stuff more, though, especially if it deals with more extreme cultish nutjob stuff.
PS, Kitty in the Sink - my cat likes spending a lot of time in the sink, too.

Sure, some of it. Just like I like vampire movies and some ghost stories although I don't believe there is valid evidence for those things existing either. I think sometimes these stories and their supernatural elements are useful devices for examining human psychology and behavior. The whole human vs. vampire mythology and fascination can say a lot about us and be used as a tool for looking at human fear and preoccupation with death, fear of the vampire juxtaposed with morbid obsession, consideration of what costs might be too high for immortality or if it would even necessarily be desirable, etc... So in a way the supernatural is sometimes just a vehicle for self examination. I think the same is true for some religious themes and stories. Questions about what we care about, how to live, how to treat each other, etc... Then again sometimes I just enjoy a good scary or funny movie and don't need to take entertainment too literally.

Yes, I love science fiction, even if it has a religious theme. I didn't like JC Superstar, but really liked Bruce Almighty because it showed that our power is within us. It was more humanist than religious.
Horror movies aren't my favorite but I liked the Exorcist. But that's more about the adrenaline rush of being scared rather than the story. The Exorcist sequels were terrible drivel.

I very much liked Bruce Almighty
Yeah, I don't care at all if fiction uses Christian ideas. Just like I like Charmed, or the movie Troy, or any fictional stories based on a world where greek gods or witches exist.

Sure, some of the fiction can be pretty good! I'm a Supernatural addict and I've read so many books with a religious background or foundation I've lost track.

Certainly, I do. Everything from stories with religious themes like The Green Mile, The Lord of the Rings, or The Matrix to direct religious works like The Exorcist or The Prophecy hold my attention rather well.

Under a definition as broad as you've indicated by your list of examples, yes, absolutely. In fact, even some of my own fiction writing touches on religious subjects (although not with regards to specific real-world religions, just religion in general or fictional ones).

I don't have a problem with any kind of fiction. What I have a problem with is when people insist that the story of the talking snake is true.
