If you have a computer that's still running Windows 2000, that means that the hardware is going to also be outdated and will probably have trouble running any new operating systems, let alone all the other third-party software that you run.

However, if you still want to try upgrading, no, you don't have to take your computer to a repair shop. You simply need to buy the version of Windows that you want, put it in your DVD ROM, restart your computer, boot off the DVD, and proceed with the on-screen instructions. If you want to upgrade your hardware also, you still don't need to go to a repair shop to do this. Exchanging PC parts is relatively simple if you feel like fiddling around inside your computer. However, if you don't feel comfortable doing either of those, then taking it to a repair shop (such as Geek Squad) would be your best bet.

I haven't heard of AVG being screwed up by Microsoft (especially considering AVG and Microsoft are not related in any way). However, I would recommend switching to Avast Antivirus. It's quick, lightweight, and has a high detection rate.

forget approximately XP, basically decide for anti-virus and a first rate firewall. i in my view will possibly never placed any Norton application on my device using fact of two motives: a million) they seem to be a scam, 2) i've got heard of too many undercover agent ware and different themes surrounding Norton products, never approximately their freeware possibilities. somewhat flow with AVG anti-virus and advert-conscious anti-undercover agent ware, the two are unfastened and extremely sturdy. Use a modem/router as a firewall, making particular you have activated each and every of the firewall-form risk-free practices (that's frequently off via default). you additionally can prefer to have a application firewall including Zone Alarm, yet i don't think of it somewhat is fairly needed except you would be vacationing volatile web pages or you have comfortable archives on your device. important observe - you're able to basically ever have considered one of each and every element, so basically have ONE anti-virus application and so on. put in at absolutely everyone time.
