Do you think technology is re-writing the English language?

This question is inspired by a new word I just ran across that gave me pause. Yousta - as opposed to "used to." I'm dating myself here, but I can barely understand half of these questions and it's not just teenagers. Punctuation, grammar and spelling seem to have been tossed out with the trash.

Does anyone else feel that we are cheating our children by allowing this? Do you consider this acceptable? Does anyone even care, or is literacy a thing of the past?

Language is very resilient. It changes, but slowly. Sure, slang and jargon words come in and out of the language but rarely have a lasting effect. Punctuation, grammar and spelling have only been tossed out where they are unimportant. Try using "yousta" or sentences with poor punctuation and spelling in a job application or university essay and see how far you get.
