How do I Permanently Delete a Saved "Sticky Note"?

I experimented with iMac's "Sticky Notes" program and created a couple of notes to test how the program works. I saved them and messed around with the options (change color, minimize, etc.) but now I'm through with them and want to get rid of them. If I drag them to the trash can and close the "sticky note" program, they're right back as soon as I open the program again. I've looked for a "delete" option and cannot find one. I tried using "Finder" and deleting from a finder window. No dice. I tried deleting them from "spotlight." That didn't work either. How do I get rid of them permanently???

Update:

Silver -- Thanks for the suggestion. Doesn't work. I cannot get the created and saved "stickies" into the trash. Whether they're in full view or minimized view, they simply slide behind the trash can and do not go in. When I "close" them, the program asks if I want to "abandon" the note, and I say "yes," and the notes disappear, but when "stickies" is re-opened, back they are!

I assume you mean "Stickies.app". On all my Macs, launching Stickies does not draw any files back out of the trash. Try these steps in the order listed:

    -- Quit Stickies.

    -- Trash all saved notes.

-- Connect any external HDD or flash device you have ever used (if you borrow drives, go borrow them again and connect them). If there are too many to connect at once, connect a few and continue...

    -- Empty the trash.

-- Disconnect all external devices (nothing but power cord, keyboard, and mouse).

-- Connect the next set of external drives.

    -- Empty the trash.

-- Disconnect all external devices (nothing but power cord, keyboard, and mouse).

-- Keep this up until you have emptied the trash for all drives.

    {The reason you must do this is that all drives and all users have their own trash.}

-- Disconnect any and all external devices (nothing but power cord, keyboard, and mouse).

    -- Empty the trash.

    -- Open Stickies.app

-- If any old text files suddenlyappear, put them back in the trash.

    -- Empty the trash.

-- Make a new note, save it with the name "2011-date" (today's date) to the desktop.

    -- Trash the note.

    -- Quit Stickies.

    -- Launch Stickies.

Does the test file jump out of the trash? If so, verify that you really did follow all the steps above in the order listed. If that's true...

-- Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.

    -- Next, go to:

    yourhomefolder/Library /Preferences

    -- Trash the file com.apple.Stickies.plist

    -- Restart.
