Isn’t this just another form of segregation?
Labeling people African-American or Mexican American, etc. just another way of segregating people? Why don’t we just refer to everybody as American, and why do we keep census records that based on demographic? Isn’t that divisive in nature?

I can see the same argument from both sides. Sure, it could be seen as a means of segregating the people of a nation through the means of divisive demographics - since the 1789 revolution in France, it has been illegal for them to collect data on race or ethnicity.
That said, I'm sure there are many people that wouldn't just want to be called an American, a Brit or a French. People often like to feel a sense of national identity separate to the nation they live in, and we must accept this. I don't think it brings about that much harm, and like the recent Census taken here in the UK, you'll have many complaining that they cannot select their ethnic group or race from the list of options provided.

Racist like to identify themselves. They call themselves African Americans, separate, different, based on race.

The solution is to label everybody green. No blacks whites or browns.Just green.Got that? good. Now light green to the front of the bus and dark green to the back.

Harder to manipulate one large mass. Best to keep them divided in separate pens.

Why don't we stop being politically correct and call everyone what they are (Black, White, Mexican, etc.)
