How big is your sandschool?
Now this always seemed like a pretty easy question for me as I am used to working in either a 20 x 40m or 20 x 60m school for dressage tests. However we are considering building one and are looking into the best place for it but after measuring out a 20m side it seems much bigger than any dressage test I've ridden (competed affiliated). So now I am very confused. Please some nice person explain this one to me or measure the sides of your 20x40 schools and let me know what size they actually are!
Thanks

20 meters always seems so much bigger from the ground. I am usually the person who sets up the arenas for our shows, and when you are measuring it out or carrying the fence boards, the place is much bigger than is seems from the back of a horse.
Go with the 20x60; shows generally use the large arena for all levels. It will take more room than you think

My 20x60 is actually 23x65! I know that for a fact as I bought the house and yard a year ago and it was in all the house-buying bumph. The person I bought from said that when they rode dressage tests in it they put white boards within the size of the arena and painted little markers on the fence where they were supposed to go. It all seems very complicated to me but I'm not that bothered about stressage, I use it for teaching my children in!
(Also, try putting cones out where you've measured 20x40/60 and then riding it. Spaces sometimes shrink when you're on a horse - unlike jumps, which grow.)

Our one at pony club, after measuring, was actually 18x38! The builders accidently cut off 2m on one side, and when the head instructor complained, they cut off 2m off the other! We ride 18m circles instead of 20m circles. :)

40 x 60, but it seems a little narrower because we have hedges surrounding it with a fence between the hedges and the sand.
