    is it:

    (p+2)/p=-3

    or as you have it written?

    if it is like above, then multiply both sides by p: p+2=-3p

    subtract a p from both sides: 2=-4p

    divide both sides by -4 and you get p=-1/2

    if you really meant what you wrote, then you would multiply everything by p: p^2+2=-3p

    add 3p to both sides: p^2+3p+2=0

    factor: (p+2)(p+1)=0

    then either p+2=0 or p+1=0, or p=-2 or p=-1

    Maybe not the most direct route but...

    P + 2/p = -3

    p^2+2 = -3p multiply everything by p (clears the fraction) (p^2 = p squared)

    p^2 + 3p + 2 = 0 make it a quadratic equation

    (p+2)(p+1)=0 factor the quadratic

    P= -2 or -1 solve for p

    Do you mean (p+2)/p = -3 or p+(2/p) = -3?

    For the first one, multiply both sides by p to get

    (p+2) = -3p

    Then subtract p from both sides to get

    2 = -4p

    divide both sides by -4 to get

    p=2/-4 =-1/2

    For the second one, subtract p from both sides to get

    (2/p) = -3 - p

    multiply both sides by p to get

    2 = -3p -p^2

    add -3p and -p^2 to both sides to get

    p^2 +3p +2 = 0

    Then factor the quadratic to get

    (p+2)(p+1) = 0

    Then solve p for 0

    p+2 = 0 and p+1 = 0

    p then equals either -2 or -1

    if you look at the equation you have P+2/p = 3 the answer is P=1 the solution is as follows

    if you subtract 2 from each side of the equation you are left with p/p=1 or looking the second method - if you divide p/p then add 2 to that answer and you have to make it equal 3. p could be any number, but when you divide it into each other it has to equal 1.

    p+2/p=-3

    p^2+2=-3p

    p^2+2+3p=0

    p^2+p+2p+2=0

    p(p+1)+2(p+1)=0

    (p+1)(p+2)=0

    p=(-1) or (-2)

    answer is p=-1, -2 how?

    here it is:

    you first find the LCM of the denominators 1 and p which is p

    (p^2+2)/p= -3

    then cross multiply:

    p^2+2=-3p

    p^2+3p+2=0

    now factorise

    p^2+2p+p+2=0

    p(p+2)+1(p+2)=0

    (p+2)(p+1)=0

    therefore, p= -2 and p= -1, that's it...

    First of all, it is more prudent to work with less fractions, so we multiply p on both sides.

    p+2=-3p Now, we subtract p on both sides

    -p -p

    2=-4p

    /-4 /-4

    -1/2=p

    Is p+2/p= (p+2)/p or p+(2/p) ??

    if (p+2)/p = -3 ---> p+2 = -3p ---> p = ...

    if p+(2/p) = - 3 ---> p^2 + 3p + 2 = 0 ----> p = ...
