Dog coughing up white foam?
Hi guys,
Starting from last night, my dog has started coughing and has been coughing all night. Sometimes she produces a white foam however the cough is very dry.
I feel so sorry for the poor thing, it's a 4 year old Kerry Blue terrier & they are known for being vicious however she would lick you to death.
I tried giving her some food earlier but about 10 minutes after that she coughed it back out. She is drinking water, but it too is being coughed back out.
She is still getting on like normal, I don't think she can run now but she isn't really coughing while sitting down but whenever she stands up the coughing starts again.
Are there any suggestions? I will keep editing this post according with any questions you may have for me. I would be very grateful for you to help me. I can't get a vet today as it's Easter Sunday.
Thanks again,
Jack

My dogs do that and bring up white foam occasionally but only when something gets lodged in their throat and only for a minute until whatever they were trying to get up comes out. The fact that your dog keeps doing it means something is seriously wrong and you need a vet immediately!

Look, I'm going to get straight to the point here.. It could be a number of things, but from what I have seen with my dogs It is possibly an infection or it may be that the dog could have been poisoned from something it ate.. Again I must emphasize that it could be anything.. But try and get the dog to at least drink some milk. This may help if it is a poison. But one thing you cannot afford is to let the dog become dehydrated. It needs liquid!
I must also emphasize here that i am not a vet.
Just try what I said and then get the dog to a vet ASAP after Easter.
P.S. It is extremely unlikely that it is rabies because they don't cough up the foam, rather, it accumulates and froths around their mouth.
Hope it helps and i hope the dog will be ok.

Tracheobronchitis, otherwise known as kennel cough. It is a respiratory disease. If the dog has normal eating habit and seems normally active, the disease will just run it's course like a human cold. If after a week and no relief, take your dog to the vet. Kennel cough is highly contagious among dogs. Stay away from kennels or activities with a lot of other dogs.

For the people saying rabies...the stereotypical "foaming of the mouth" happens in the muuuuuch later stages. You would have noticed many other symptoms.
It sounds to me like she is just coughing which makes her throw up. Usually when it is just foam, they have nothing really in their stomach to throw up.
You definitely need to get her checked out by the vet. She is probably becoming dehydrated.

For today, feed the dog light foods (like rice which is easy on a dogs stomach) and then tomorrow if this coughing continues you should see a vet.

as many people said it could be rabies. unless the dog has been vaccinated in which case it could just be aspirating its water and food. A vet trip tomorrow is in order. This could be many things but if you are up to date on your rabies vaccine its most likely not that.
