carpet cleaning problem in our lounge?

Have a waxy, oily mark on the carept where a Labrador dog slept in the sunshine for about the last 4 years. Have tried spray shampoo type machines and Vanish products and nothing will shift it.

Any ideas ??

Update:

Have used a spray machine with warm water and brushes, but it is not moving this. Washing up liquid will be possible, but you cannot get rid of the suds I think.

NEVER use soap or detergent products that lather or foam, they leave a residue will remain in the carpet fiber and attract new dirt to the location. You need to use cleaning solutions specifically designed for cleaning carpet.

In my experience, Rug Doctor cleaning solutions work the best and are the most economical. Whatever brand of cleaning product you choose, you can double it's longevity and cleaning power by using Oxy Clean as a pretreatment and fortifier.

Every carpet cleaner manufacturer will tell you to ONLY use their cleaning products in their machines, unfortunately, that can be expensive and not necessarily the best cleaning product available. Be forewarned that the use of non-manufacturer recommended cleaning agents can void the warranty of your machine.

What you need is a bottle of Rug Doctor carpet cleaning concentrate, a box of Oxy Clean crystals. If you have pet or other organic stains, pick up a bottle of Nature's Miracle - and enzymatic stain remover from a pet store.

Step one - Pretreat stains with Natures Miracle. You want to saturate the stain well, and work the area with a scrub brush or rag to work the solution into the carpet fiber. This is for pet accidents, food spills, that sort of thing. Your pet 'bed' area doesn't require this step.

Step two - Pretreat the entire area to be cleaned with a broadcast spray of Oxy-Clean solution (follow instructions on label ), and work this in with either a scrub brush or by "kicking" it in with your feet. Basically, scuff your feet around the area well to work the Oxy-Clean solution into the carpet fibers.

Step three - Using the same Oxy-Clean solution described above, mix up the carpet cleaning solution as per the label, but mix it to the light side, meaning use a bit less than the recommended amount. If a range of product quantity is suggested, say 1/2 cup to 1 cup, use the lesser amount because the Oxy-Clean will be making up for it.

Step four - Following the cleaning equipment instructions, apply the solution, work it into the carpet, and extract it. Follow this immediately with a rinse cycle. The proper method is one cleaning stroke and several dry strokes to pick up the spent solution. Change to straight, clear hot tap water and make at least two rinse strokes over the area. Allow this to dry thoroughly before continuing with further rinses. Additional rinses will be indicated by the color of the extraction liquid and whether or not it's still pulling up excess soap/foam.

The big thing is that you don't want to over saturate the carpet, which will get the pad below wet. Wet pad can cause odors, mildew, and mold to occur. You can speed the drying process by running fans for increased air circulation over the floor.

It is greece, so the only things that are strong enough to lift it will be products that are for getting rid of oily residue. If I were you, I would hire a carpet machine, and then I would fo at it with things like dishwashing liquid or some other oil fighter. But with dishwashing liquid, there will be lots of suds; that's where the carpet Vac will come in. This sounds like a lot of work; I don't know it might work. Test your products for color fastness before you use them. You could also try ammonia or ammonia cleaner, I have no idea though if it would be safe for your carpet, so be care full.

    Good luck!
