what can be bought with a bank account and not raise a red flag for a SSI recipients?

I receive medicare and medicaid do to a disability. I also receive ssdi on my fathers work record. I just found out that the checks will need to be direct deposited starting in 2013. They are doing away with the paper checks. I don't use a large amount of the check each month since I still live with family. I can't let the money sit in the bank because of the medicaid resource limits. If I did that I would loose my medicaid that pays for stuff that medicare doesn't. I have a preexisting condition and am under 65. so even if I wanted to buy a Supplement there are non that would sell to me or make me go broke. Any suggestions?

Update:

I get $945 monthly and live in Nebraska where according to my caseworker the monthly asset limit is $2000.00 a month and I usually don't have expenses every month for the full amount. So if I went over that limit I'd loose medicaid for the time my assets where over $2000.00.

Right now I'm just cashing the check and using it monthly as I need which will not be as easy when I have to go to direct deposit.

Update 2:

I looked at the pcip gov link and it would not work since I currently have medicare and medicaid since I've been on disability for two years.

and since I also draw SSDI on my dad's work record I can't get married or I'd loose my medicare.

There is a new program for people with pre-existing conditions https://www.pcip.gov/

You can also go to a government screening site, that gives you all the state and private options available

    http://www.healthcare.gov/

Neither requires your name, or any personal info. They basically just let you know what state programs are available, along with Private options. States often have programs available, and usually even numerous options for Medicaid. They are just very bad at promoting them. Often you have to seek them out.

Post why you cant withdraw money from the acct to keep the balance below the limit.

Post if you'r required to show the SSI Office proof of your expenditures.

I dont know how strict they are enforcing the limit, bc a friend on SSI was $1,000 over the limit for most months for about 2 yrs and nothing was said.

    But I wouldnt try that.

If you get married, the limit goes up $1,000.

There is no reason why you can't withdraw large sums of cash from your checking account or even small sums to prevent the account from exceeding the resource limit. No SSI worker is going to ask you for receipts when they do a redetermination. So pay your bills and withdraw what is left.
