Both are nice places depends on what you want, Beijing is more a historic Chinese capital city, Hong Kong is a place where the east meets the west. Check www.DiscoverHongKong and get a feel on the City.

Beijing. HK is small, BJ is big you can go to many other cities around Beijing. Enjoy the snow in Haerbing, ocean in beidahe, forest etc... all only a few hours away by train/bus. And of course the great wall. In addition, prices in BJ are much cheaper. Check out my journal below.

Hong Kong is more compact and easier to get around so for sight seeing it is easier, however, Beijing has more historic things to see, and taxis are cheap.
I have always enjoyed myself everywhere I have visited in China.
