Ramadan: What is your goal in terms of memorizing the Quran?

Assalamu Aleikom brothers and sisters,

What goal do you have for yourself in regards to memorizing the Quran? Do you hope to achieve memorizing half of it, a juzu', a few surahs, the entire quran, no goal at all?

I'm asking this again just to reach out to different people. I think it should be the goal of each of us to memorize the entire Quran. Even if you only have the shortest surah memorized and it seems impossible before death, we should make it our intention to do so. Agree or disagree? Or do you think setting a goal less ambiguous works better for you? I say this because Allah takes our intentions into account and can reward us for them, and who knows, when we seek to do something for the sake of Allah, He makes it easier for us to succeed in it so that it can be possible to one day have the entire Quran in our hearts inshallah.

A great lecture (believe me its great, mashallah) will be posted on Thursday which explains the best ways of memorizing the Quran and to make you succeed in your goals inshallah. And to those without goals, this lecture will awaken a whole new dream for you. Some of you have already joined, so keep a lookout for it and let us know how it benefits you!

Lecture will be posted here on Thursday inshallah:

"And in truth We have made the Quran easy to remember; but is there any that remembered"

[Surat al-Qamar, 22]

Your sister in Islam~

Update:

@Rubber - this lecture doesnt focus on memorizing the Quran in order to recite it like a parrot. Actually I agree with you about understanding, but the fact that we are understanding should also encourage us to memorize it. We memorize thousands of songs yet when it comes to the words of Allah we do not.

Understanding and memorization go hand in hand, and are both required for a Muslim. Hope that helps and that you watch it :) mashallah to everyone, may Allah make us all succeed in our goals!

Update 2:

@Pakistani Chap - mashallah for your past experiences, may Allah take you back to such actions and make the final moments of your life the best of them. Better to get started on our goals sooner than later, and that goes for all of us.

My goal is to memorize WHOLE of it one day insh'Allah. (soon!)

    I m on surah a'naam.

    have memorized 16 juzz.

have lead prayers in congregation (not in taraweeh, but rather in shabeenah).

    do pray for us all.

I share this wonderful poem by a blind man on memorization of the quran 'made easy'!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oivmFG4AcJ0

    Memorizing the quran is EASY!

but keeping it strong in memory is Not!

    Bukhari :: Book 6 :: Volume 61 :: Hadith 549

    Narrated Ibn Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "The example of the person who knows the Qur'an by heart is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will control them, but if he releases them, they will run away."

I hope u liked the above hadith!

    i wanna share another!

    Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 1725

'Abdullah is reported to have said: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the sacred books (or always renew your knowledge of these sacred books) and sometimes he would mention the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than animals which are hobbled, and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: None of you should say: I forgot such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.

May Allah increase us in our imaan and adherence to islam.

    Ameen.

Source(s): Two quotes to keep you motivated! insha'Allah. “Whenever I set myself the task to learn, I realize how little I know and the more I learn, the more I realize how ignorant I am.” [Imam ash-Shafi’ee (rahimahullaah)] Rabi' bin Khuthaim said: "All that is desired not for Allah, but for somthing or someone else, perishes."

I completed the memorisation of the Qur'an at 14-15. Though, initially I was forced or told to go to Madrassa i.e do Hifz, however, I'm glad I was, and I thank my parents every day they didn't allow me to quit. While I was doing Hifz (memorising the Qur'an) I was looking forward to leading the Ramadan congregation (Taraweeh) which I did for a few years after completing. Our Madrassa would send the best Hufaaz (Plural of Hafiz) to countries all over the world during Ramadan, these people would request Hufaaz as they had none in their locality. I was fortunate enough to be the few who got this opportunity, so I have lead Taraweeh prayers in Spain - Barcelona, Japan - Tokyo, and all over England.

Sadly, I do not lead Ramadan prayers anymore. For various reasons; Just don't get the time, work life is hectic, plus my imaan (faith) is not where it should be, or as it was before. I don't have a beard either (which in some places is a must, or they'd feel uncomfortable praying behind an imam without a beard)

Insha'Allah I have intentions to get back on that prayer mat again, soon.

    Walaikumasalam wa Rahmatullah =)

    I've started memorizing, Alhamdulillah!

I would memorize my favorite surahs from different places in the Quran....but then I thought...why not memorize it from the beginning, in order?.....InshaAllah I hope to be a Hafidha one day soon :)

    Jazakallahu Khair for sharing :)

i will learn arabic in its original form inshallah but i think memorising is also very useful providing you try and understand what you memorize. my goal is to memorize it all understand it all and try to implement it all into a modern world.

    walaikum asalaam

edit: some people will memorize and not understand a damn thing there are many people who have gone 30 40 50 years in their life and have no clue what they are saying in salah. knowledge needs to be attained efficiently and understood effectively and applied righteously.
