Assalamu alaikum brothers and sisters,

Do you like spending time watching Islamic lectures online or attending Islamic lectures (if you have that opportunity in your community)? I find that getting into this habit is such a beneficial way to gain knowledge and become closer to Allah swt.

For those who do, what kind of lectures do you like to watch? Do you have any recommendations? I am hoping to start up this weekly Islamic lecture page this week after a couple of years of being inactive. It would be great to know what most interests you and if you have any good lectures to share (inshallah, the ajr will be on your meezan of good deeds on Judgment Day as well).

Remember being knocked out by an *issue* so big that you didn’t know what to do? You didn’t get that job you wanted so desperately...you met the man/woman of your dreams and they didn’t want to marry you…or that you lost something really precious and you did not know where to turn. . . .

Picture the moment when Musa’s [as] mum hugged her baby son and put him in a basket and placed it on the River Nile…. She must have been scared, nervous and composed all at the same time.

At some point in our lives we will all have to do something that we fear….

How do you feel when you have to do something that scares you? Is it anger and frustration that kicks in…. Or.... a sort of calmness because you trust in Allah knowing that He has a better plan? I love Prophet Musa’s mum because she trusted her Lord and did what He asked her.

The next time you face an *issue* what will you do?

Isn't it amazing what snowflakes can do when they stick together?

What do you think, does it give you something to reflect upon on ourselves? It's not so much the idea of having so many snowflakes that matters, but that they stick together.

Imagine this: If you had a large field, it wouldnt matter if there were lots of snowflakes coming down if they just end up spread apart once they reach the ground, because they melt and nothing is accomplished. And if you had less snowflakes coming down but they stuck together in an area on the ground, they would grow as a pile without melting, and eventually accomplish a beautiful snowy setting on the ground that we could do so much with.

It's kinda like when the very small Muslim army was victorious at the Battle of Badr, one of the reasons being that they stuck together. Yes I know, it's strange to have snowflakes remind me of Battle of Badr lol. But I hope inshallah that you take even the littlest of things infront of you as opportunities to reflect and increase your imaan :)

I find it interesting that the Bible describes how Jesus (pbuh) and others conducted their prayers in the same way that Muslims do today. I'm referring to these Bible verses:

~Then Abraham fell upon his face.. [Genesis 17:17]

~And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshiped God. [Revelation 11:16]

~And fell before the trone on their faces, and worshipped God. [Revelation 7:11]

~And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my father.. [Matthew 26:39]

~And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord. [Chronicles 20:18]

~And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped. [Exodus 34:8]

Prostrating in worship is such a beautiful act of honor and humbleness before your Creator. Muslims worship in this similar style to how the Bible explains it, as we also pray the way Jesus (pbuh) did. So why do many Christians pray with their hands put together instead? Is this something the churches teach? Do any of you pray with your faces lowered to the ground like above?

With the situation and all the gruesome stuff happening to the people in Syria my friend is becoming very depressed (she has family and friends there). She's in a very emotional state and doesn't sit in social gatherings anymore due to fear of having a break down and crying. She also feels that many of our brothers and sisters dont understand how critical the condition and do not bother giving it much attention because it's not "their own" country". So she spends most of her time giving constant status and video updates on facebook.

Mashallah she is very religious and understanding of Allah's decree, but still she's a human with emotion. How can I comfort her so she can interact with us like she used to? What inspirational and reassuring reminders can I support her with from the Quran and Hadith about this situation?

My question is inspired by the recent death of a young brother in our community who struggled silently and patiently through a painful illness, and when they uncovered his face at his grave they found him smiling. Mashallah...a tough Dunya yet such a peaceful Akhirah.

"Every soul shall have a taste of death; then to us shall ye return."

[Quran 29:57]

What kind of death do you wish to have? And are you making dua for it? I know we tend to think more about the Dunya and Akhirah than how we're going to depart, but since it's guaranteed each one of us will face death, it's important we start implementing it in our dua.

May Allah grant us all beautiful deaths and unite us in a pleasing Akhirah with our Creator and all the Sabiqoon, Ameen. Inna le Allah wa inna elayhi raje'oon, please keep all our dead Muslim brothers and sisters in your dua~

As you may know, we as Muslims can make various actions in our lives part of our ibaadah (worship) when we do it for the sake of Allah. That includes studying, eating, and even sleeping. Subhanallah.

So even though your major may have nothing to do with Islam, how do you personally use it or plan on using it for the sake of Allah? I mean for your specific major, what ways can you think of that will allow you to use what you studied as part of your ibaadah and for the cause of Islam?

May Allah make us successful in our studies by using them do to good for His sake~

To fellow Christians, I am just wondering since a Christian recently told me that the main reason Christians believe Jesus (pbuh) to be the son of God is because he had a mother and no father, therefore making God is his "father". First of all do you agree with this reason?

I'm also curious about this as a Muslim. In the Quran Allah attributes the creation of Jesus (pbuh) to that of Adam (pbuh), in that He said "Be!" and he was. So since you also believe God miraculously created Adam without a mother nor a father, couldnt He have also created Jesus without a father? So why is Jesus the "son of God" and Adam is not?

If you were to sit and reflect on your life right now, do you find that you tend to make Dunya as your priority even when it has a bad effect on your Akhirah (afterlife)?

The companions of the prophet (saws) used to place their Deen (religion) on their heads like a crown, and the Dunya between their hands. Therefore whenever their deen gets out of place and needs fixing, they put down the Dunya and use their hands to fix their Deen. Subhanallah its the opposite of what we see these days. We put the Dunya on our heads as a crown, and the Deen between our hands. And when the Deen affects our Dunya, we let it go aside and care more for the Dunya.

How do you wear your Deen and Dunya? May Allah guide us~

Do you believe that good actions are best measured by their quality (how well they are done) or their quantity (how many are done)? Do you find more happiness when you do a few good deeds to your greatest ability, or just many many good deeds?

Put simply: Quantity or quality of good deeds? What makes you lean towards your answer?

I have my answer and reasons to why I chose it, but I wanted to see what you all think :)

where Alaa al Sayed says that Abu Dharr al Ghaffar was once asked what he loved most, and he replied "illness, hunger, and death". Because illness shed his sins, hunger brought his heart closer to Allah with humbleness, and death returned him to his Creator.

Does anyone know if this is a Hadith, and the source for this?

So after attending an amazing two-day conference with Dr. Reda Bedeir, Baba Ali, and Boona Mohammed about changing ourselves, we were asked to write down 5 things that we want to change about our conduct and inshallah start working on them right away. I thought it would be nice for you to also sit down with yourselves for a few minutes and just think, what do you what to change in your life? Many beautiful answers came up in the conference that reminded me of my own improvements that I need to make.

My question is, what is one of the most things you want to change in regards to your relationship with Islam? I really recommend you write down 5 things for yourself and share ONE of them, so that the rest of us may reflect and also make dua for each other. Keep the other 4 personal.

Also, to help others who might be in the same situation, WHEN are you going to begin this change and HOW are you going to get yourself to change it?

What goal do you have for yourself in regards to memorizing the Quran? Do you hope to achieve memorizing half of it, a juzu', a few surahs, the entire quran, no goal at all?

I'm asking this again just to reach out to different people. I think it should be the goal of each of us to memorize the entire Quran. Even if you only have the shortest surah memorized and it seems impossible before death, we should make it our intention to do so. Agree or disagree? Or do you think setting a goal less ambiguous works better for you? I say this because Allah takes our intentions into account and can reward us for them, and who knows, when we seek to do something for the sake of Allah, He makes it easier for us to succeed in it so that it can be possible to one day have the entire Quran in our hearts inshallah.

A great lecture (believe me its great, mashallah) will be posted on Thursday which explains the best ways of memorizing the Quran and to make you succeed in your goals inshallah. And to those without goals, this lecture will awaken a whole new dream for you. Some of you have already joined, so keep a lookout for it and let us know how it benefits you!

Prophet Muhammad (saws) said, 'Verily there is a Surah in the Quran which has 30 Ayats. It had interceded for a person until he was forgiven. That Surah is 'Tabarak allathi biyadihil mulk'. [Tirmidhi]

It's also called al-Waqiya (the Protector), al-Munjiyya (the Rescuer), al-Mani'a (the Defender), and al-Mujadila (the Arguer) because it argues on behalf of the one who knows it when he is in the grave.

Prophet Muhammad (saws) never used to sleep without reciting Surat al-Mulk, and he wished for it to be in the heart of every believer. Think of how easy it is to take 10 mins each night to recite it and at the end of your life, being so pleased with yourself because of its great benefits. My question is, what other ways are you preparing for a good death? Or have you not really thought of it enough to prepare? Is death a depressing topic to you?

Surely death is a blessing for a believer who is prepared, those who passed on are probably happier than we are now inshallah. May Allah make us all have beautiful deaths where the angels welcome out our souls with garments from Jannah, smell of musk, and glad tidings from Allah!
