Ramadan: How can I comfort my friend who is becoming very depressed about...?
Asalamu aleikom brothers and sisters,
With the situation and all the gruesome stuff happening to the people in Syria my friend is becoming very depressed (she has family and friends there). She's in a very emotional state and doesn't sit in social gatherings anymore due to fear of having a break down and crying. She also feels that many of our brothers and sisters dont understand how critical the condition and do not bother giving it much attention because it's not "their own" country". So she spends most of her time giving constant status and video updates on facebook.
Mashallah she is very religious and understanding of Allah's decree, but still she's a human with emotion. How can I comfort her so she can interact with us like she used to? What inspirational and reassuring reminders can I support her with from the Quran and Hadith about this situation?
Jazakum Allah khair. Please don't ignore the oppression of our fellow brothers and sisters in Syria and all the Muslim countries. Allah yonsor al Muslimeen, ameen~

Wa Alykom Al-salam,
Well, please remind her with those verses from the Holy Qur'an:
Never take those killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, well-provided, (169) Happy with what Allah has given them of His grace; and they feel pleased with the good news, about those left behind them who could not join them, that there shall be no fear for them nor shall they grieve. (170) They feel pleased with blessing from Allah, and grace, and with the fact that Allah would not let the reward of the believers be lost. (171) ([[ Chapter 3 // Verses 169 : 171 ]])
Surely We will test you with a bit of fear and hunger, and loss in wealth and lives and fruits, and give good tidings to the patient (155) Who, when a suffering visits them, say: “We certainly belong to Allah, and to Him we are bound to return.” 77 (156) Those are the ones upon whom there are blessings from their Lord, and mercy as well; and those are the ones who are on the right path. (157) ([[ Chapter 2 // Verses 155 : 157 ]])
and please also remind her with those Hadith from Prophet Muhammed -Peace Be Upon Him-:
Bukhari :: Book 4 :: Volume 52 :: Hadith 49
Narrated Samura:
The Prophet said, "Last night two men came to me (in a dream) and made me ascend a tree and then admitted me into a better and superior house, better of which I have never seen. One of them said, 'This house is the house of martyrs."
Dawud :: Book 14 : Hadith 2515
Narrated Hasana' daughter of Mu'awiyah:
She reported on the authority of her paternal uncle: I asked the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him): Who are in Paradise? He replied: Prophets are in Paradise, martyrs are in Paradise, infants are in Paradise and children buried alive are in Paradise.
Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 93 :: Hadith 555
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "Allah guarantees (the person who carries out Jihad in His Cause and nothing compelled him to go out but Jihad in His Cause and the belief in His Word) that He will either admit him into Paradise (Martyrdom) or return him with reward or booty he has earned to his residence from where he went out."
Dawud :: Book 14 : Hadith 2516
Narrated AbudDarda':
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The intercession of a martyr will be accepted for seventy members of his family.
i hope that this will help her a little

wa alaikum salam sister.
more muslims should worry about the current state of our ummah. Everything should be fine inshallah.
I love this verse:
"Verily, with hardship there is relief" (Qur'an 94:6)
remind your friend, Syria, palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and the rest of the muslim countries will improve inshallah. Tell her to continue to make dua for this ummah and our muslim brothers and sisters.
again,
"Verily, with hardship there is relief" (Qur'an 94:6)

He Who Has No One Has Allah - by Navaid Aziz (dedicated to those who suffer the most!)

The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Those who face the toughest trials and hardships are the Prophets, then the most pious people and then those less than them (in terms of piety); a person continues to be afflicted until he walks on earth without having a sin (on his record of deeds).'' [Al-Bukhaari].
A beneficial way of dealing with anxiety about the future is to use the supplication of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), in which he used to say: “O Allaah! make my religion easy for me by virtue of which all my affairs are protected, set right for me my world in which I live, make good for me my Hereafter which is the resort to which I must return, make my life a means of increase in achieving all types of good, and make death a relief for me from every evil.” [Muslim].
Also, his saying, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): “O Allaah! I hope for Your mercy, so do not leave me to myself even for (as short a time as) the blinking of an eye and rectify for me all my affairs. Nothing is worthy of being worshipped except You alone.”[Abu Daawood]
Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {“And whosoever puts his trust in Allaah, then He will suffice him.”}[Quran, 65: 3],
Ask her to recite:
'Innaa lillaahi wa 'innaa 'ilayhi raaji'oon, Allaahumma'-jurni fee museebatee wa 'akhliflee khayran minhaa.
We are from Allah and unto Him we return . O Allah take me out of my plight and bring to me after it something better.
Reference: Muslim 2/632.
He Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “The supplication of any of you is answered unless he is hasty with it and says, ‘I invoked my Lord, but He did not answer my invocation.’” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
he Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Good morals, deliberation and moderation are one part of the twenty-four parts of Prophethood.” [At-Tirmithi: Hasan]
The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Be keen to do that which will benefit you, rely on Allaah, and do not be lazy (by not exerting effort) and say when a problem befalls you: ‘If only I would have done such and such, then the result would have been such and such’ rather, one should say: ‘This was decreed by Allaah and He does what He wills.’ Saying ‘If’ opens the gate for Satan (to cause discontent).” [Muslim]
