Ramadan: Can you help me in finding the source of this narration (which may or may not be a Hadith)?
Assalamu Aleikom brothers and sisters :)
FIrst of all, Ramadan mubarak to all of you and your families inshallah! May it leave you with the best of health and imaan.
I was watching this lecture (which I recommend you all to watch): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fq1yXQQLMwU
where Alaa al Sayed says that Abu Dharr al Ghaffar was once asked what he loved most, and he replied "illness, hunger, and death". Because illness shed his sins, hunger brought his heart closer to Allah with humbleness, and death returned him to his Creator.
Does anyone know if this is a Hadith, and the source for this?
Jazakum'Allah khair~
Take your time :) Its hard to find because these are probably not the exact words
Jazakallah khair! I guess the speaker didnt get it from Bukhari, but those were also interesting and beneficial to read. I just found this one online but the source isn't something I recognize.
Abu Darda (رضي الله عنه) said, “I love 3 things which most people hate, poverty, illness and death. I love death because of my yearning to meet my lord. I love povery because it forces me to be humble before my Lord. I love illness because it atones my sins.”
Hilyatul Awliya
W Allahu A3lam.
Bent el Islam - JAK. I'll have to do more research since the Sheikh most likely found a trusting source before adding it to his lecture, but thats definetly something to keep in mind :)

This hadith in it's entirety is not sahih.
It is not from bukhari or muslim.. or any other sunnah books.
It was only narrated as a story in Ajloony's book.. other than that..
It is not authentic.. and it is not permissible to narrate it if it's not authentic.

The only part in this hadith that is correct.. is the final part... where Prophet saw said.. it was made beloved to him 3 things in this world... etc.. [even though the wording is not accurate in this hadith]. So we do not even mention it.
Salam Alaikum

A hadith is essentially a saying of Prophet Muhammad ( SAW).
I have heard this quote of Abu Zar Ghaffari before. He was very
pious companion of prophet Muhammad. But Prophet has suggested
a middle course for us, for everybody can not tolerate so much
trial.
