Around 30 horses are kept at the Royal Mews (right next to Buckingham Palace), along with the State Carriage and other carriages.

The Royal Family has extenive lands, so they have plenty of place to keep the horses. Separate members of the Royal Family also keep horses at their private estates; Prince Charles at Highgrove, Princess Anne - at Gatcombe Park , etc.

The Queens own horses are kept at Windsor and are exercised in Windsor Great Park, The Queen spends most weekends at Windsor and still rides. The Horses for parades are military horses and are stabled in London and Windsor.

As for the welfare the Queen is the most contentious horse owner in the land and is highly respected in the equestrian circuit.

Theres one thing for sure, horses will NOT be maltreated by the Royals, they think more of horses than they do of people. As Prince Philip said of Anne "so long anything eats hay and Farts,Anne is for it ", so dont worry the Gee,Gees will be looked after !
