ipod touch. pls help?

I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand ipod touch (due to low budget), and i can't decide whether to buy an ipod touch 1st gen 32gb or ipod touch 2nd gen 32gb. I just want to play games like fruit ninja, angry birds, labyrinth, etc.. And i need to make sure that the ipod touch i'm going to buy is in good condition, any tips on how to check if the ipod is in good condition.. this is my first time to buy an ipod so i really don't know what to expect.

Also, is the game application still applicable to the lower ipod touch generation, i'm afraid that the games released recently in websites is not compatible to the 1st gen or 2nd gen ipod touch anymore.

please don't recommend me to buy brandnew ipod touch because i have low budget and i think its really impractical, i don't need the camera of the ipod touch 4th gen anyways. I just want it for entertainment and games. Thanks in advance:))
