I'm a beginner - how do I plant verbena seeds in a hanging basket?
I purchased Verbena seeds, in mixed colors, for my hanging basket. Being in Kansas, it is now the ideal time to plant them. They will be hanging from my front porch, which receives a great deal of sunlight. What are the steps I should take? How far apart and how far down do I place the seeds? How often do I water? How many seeds per hanging basket? It is just a 14 inch basket with coco fiber lining. Thanks!

Look on the back of the seed packet to tell you how deep to plant the seeds. Usually about 1 1/2 times the size of the seed. So if the seed is 1/8 of an inch in size, plant it just a little deeper than 1/8 inch deep. The smaller the seed, the less deep you plant it. Plant them about 1 inch apart and then when they are about 1 inch tall, cut the smaller weaker seedlings down and just leave about 5 good ones to grow. Just dampen the soil and then just spray them with water every day to keep them damp. Spray works well because it doesn't wash the seeds down.
If you want to speed up the germination, you can cover the pot with a plastic dome or a plastic bag. That holds in the heat and moisture, so you don't have to spray them with water every day.
Take the cover off as soon as you see germination.

i've got have been given strawberry flora in 2 of my striking baskets, a mix of untamed strawberries (tiny, aromatic, scrumptious) & simple strawberries. The small, white vegetation are wonderful & the fruit is a large bonus :o) I even have Thyme in yet another striking basket. i've got chanced on those incredibly person-friendly to improve & take care of. they'll come decrease back each year, if dealt with. yet another suggestion is Tumbling Toms, Tomato flora. I did improve various tomato flora final twelve months, yet no longer effectively, so did no longer be able to transplant them into striking baskets :o( reliable good fortune.....have enjoyable!! ;-p
