Yes women are allowed to play in the NBA, however only one has ever been allowed to play on the professional field with men. This woman not only holds the record for being the first woman to play the NBA, but also holds other prestigious titles such as: 1st woman voted MVP, shortest nba career of 1 game, worst 3 point shooting style, the list is long. Of course I am talking about Justin Bieber who set men's heart's racing when she first appeared in the 2011 All Star Game. However, her career was short lived after testing positive to penis enhancing drugs afterwards.
Generally, however, women play in the WNBA as many have stated above.
Interestingly, Ann Meyers tried out for the NBA Pacers worth $50 000 although disappointingly, she did not make the cut. More information if you want to have a future career here or just want to learn about this league, please see:

There's no NBA rule that says women are excluded from playing, because there hasn't been a need for one. It's theoretically possible that an extraordinarily talented female athlete could win a spot on an NBA roster. However, men are so much bigger, stronger, and more powerful then women that even the best female basketball player couldn't make a decent mens division one college team.

Absolutely a woman could play in the NBA. In fact Ann Meyers had a tryout in 1980 for the Indiana Pacers. She participated in a three-day camp but was not selected for the final squad. That's the closest any woman has come to play in the NBA.
It is possible for a woman to play. They just have to become one of the 360 best basketball players in the world regardless of gender. That's the hard part.

No it wouldn't happen. No NBA team would draft a woman. I don't know if it's in the rules or not but it wouldn't happen. That's what the WNBA is for.

What up AL,
No there is a separate league for Woman called the WNBA.
There would be issues to address - because basketball is such a contact sport- and you would have issues of sexual harassment and locker room situations, etc. to address. Based on the current rules and set-up the NBA is exercising wisdom in having the men play the men and the women play the women.

No.
The reasons why they provide the WNBA because such is meant for women only, because no matter how skillful certain woman is, still she can't resist the physical activities happening on NBA, such would be unfair to any that will get hired.
Good luck

No! It wouldn't be fair to the woman to have to defend Dwight Howard and then get hit by his rotating elbows right in the mouth followed by getting posterized with a monster dunk all up in her grill! That's why there is WNBA.
