wireless internet problem?

I cannot connect to the internet on my home network. I am on a laptop and am connected to an alternative network. I can connect to the router of my network but it doesn't allow me internet access. This is also the case when I connect via ethernet. My flatmates can connect to the internet with no problem. And I can connect to different networks using the same laptop.

I have:

> ran the windows diagnose thing. It doesn't know what's wrong

> restarted laptop, router, etc.

> rang up my ISP but died of boredom after being on hold for 30mins

>checked the wireless network connection settings

I'm running Windows 7 Professional and BT Infinity with a Homehub 2.0 router.

Any ideas what may be wrong?

Thanks in advance

Update:

To clarify - I've had this laptop on this connection for >6 months and haven't knowingly changed any settings related to networking and Internet. It has worked fine until yesterday. Yesterday was pretty standard - nothing installed, changed, removed...

Thanks for the answers so far, but have you bore in mind that I have the same problem with the ethernet cable?

Update 2:

I just opened command prompt and did ipconfig on a dynamic connection to the troublesome network. There was no default gateway listed and the subnet mask wasn't what it usually was. I'm not sure what the significance of this is really. Couldn't ping anything I should have been able to.

Then I set up a static connection. After that the networks icon on the taskbar decided I was connected to the internet for a bit, although I didn't get to actually load any pages before it returned to its not-working state. This is the nearest thing I've come to a breakthrough unfortunately.

Your router needs to be set to accept a connection type for your wireless receiver in your laptop, usually in the wireless settings. You will find different types of connections available. Find out what kind of reciver you have on your laptop and put that setting in the router for connection type.

    these things can be done:

1-restart you router and connect to it immediately

2- disconnect all the other computers connected to it and try to connect your laptop

3-move the antenna of the router to the side of your laptop

4-buy a new router as some routers dont support windows 7

Move the router at least 6 ft away from all computers and reflash the router with the free firmware at dd-wrt.com.
