Why are laugh tracks used in sitcoms, but not in movies?

Update:

I understand that movies are not filmed live or in front of an audience. I'm talking of canned laughter. Surely canned laughter can easily be added in a movie.

Laugh tracks prompt the audience to find humor in something that is not obviously funny or simply not funny at all. Since sitcoms have multiple episodes it is necessary to perpetuate this lie to keep the ratings high and viewership up. However, in movies people get marketed in through the trailer, and once they've already payed their twelve bucks to see the flick, whether or not they view the film in its entirety is irrelevant.

People will know it's fake and get annoyed by it. I hate laugh tracks because I think I know what is funny without the director telling me with a laugh track.

At least with sitcoms filmed in front of live audiences, you are not sure if it is fake.

because they never filmed movies live

edit: obviously canned laughter is meant to simulate or evoke the viewing experience of a classic sitcom filmed infront of a live audience. (poor grammar i can't be bothered to fix)
