  • Know any jokes with obscure/confusing punch lines (10+1 points for best answer)?

Basically I would like examples of punch-lines which are really difficult to understand, but at the same time still funny.

    For e.g.,

The bartender says, "We don't serve tachyons here." A tachyon walks into a bar.

They need not be on obscure topics like quantum physics, but they must really require a lot of thinking to get.

  • What are these type of jokes called?

For e.g. (I've shortened this considerably)

'A Britisher marries a Chinese woman. On the first day, she decides to cook chicken. She goes to the store but is unable to communicate because she can't speak English. So, she flaps her hands like a chicken lifts her skirt and shows her legs and then raises one finger. The cashier understands that she wants one kilo of chicken legs.

The next day, she flaps her hands like a chicken, shows her breasts and raises one finger, so the cashier understands she wants one kilo of chicken breast.

On the third day, she wants to make frankfurters, so she takes her husband along. You understand why, right?

(At this point the other person will usually say something like, "yeah, to show his co**!")

That's when you say, "No. Its because he knows English!"

What I wanted to know is what this genre of jokes are called as I wanted to find some more on the web.

  • Why do you think women are generally unable to make jokes?

I'm not trying to be sexist. Oh sure, you have a few female comedians, but if you have to be honest with yourself, you'll have to agree women are not so proficient at MAKING jokes. Don't confuse this with 'having a sense of humor'. I agree that women understand and appreciate jokes well.

In fields such as physical sports or the corporate world, men usually have the advantage of being physically stronger or more aggressive which could explain their dominance.

But why humor? In fact, since girls are usually smarter than guys, you would expect the former to excel in this field.

  • This is a really tough/ intricate language question. 10+1 points for the best answer?

I am looking for a pun joke which works in English AS WELL AS after translating into another language.

For example, "Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana." Here the pun is on the two senses of the word 'flies'. However, if you translate it into any other language, it will no longer be funny.

Can you give me an example of one which would still be funny in another language?

  • Has this ever actually happened to you?

Its something you usually see in sitcoms, wherein a guy and a girl will be furiously arguing with each other getting more and more furious with each round of arguments and they end up kissing passionately and have sex right then and there.

Does that actually happen in real life? Has it happened to you? I find it difficult to believe the human mind would function in such a way!

  • Have you heard of grammar Nazis in other languages?

For those who aren't familiar with the term, grammar-Nazis are those people who get a rush out of correcting other people's English in messageboards, forums, Youtube video comments etc.

What I wanted to know is whether this phenomenon is as prevalent in other languages, besides English. I have been on a few French messageboards and didn't find any grammar-nazis. I'm also a member of many hindi forums, where I don't notice pathological grammar correction.

Is there something about the English language that makes people do that?

  • How does a banking system function when interest rates are 0%?

Countries like Japan have a zero percent interest rates. Thus, banks only offer something like 0.2% interest on fixed deposits. Logic would dictate that nobody would keep money in fixed deposit as it gives near zero returns. Either they would invest in stocks or give it to relatives abroad to invest it more profitably. If people do not keep money with banks, how do the banks get money to advance loans to businesses and other borrowers?

  • How does Japan's banking system function with 0% interest rates?

If the interest rate offered on fixed deposits is as low as 0.2%, then nobody would keep their money in banks or would send money abroad to relatives so that they may invest it more profitably there.

If nobody keeps their money in banks, how does the bank get money to lend?

  • Why can't there be a telephone internet (see details)?

We pay the same whether we access an internet site on a server next door or on a server half a world away because we only pay the charges to connect to the nearest backbone. Why can't the same thing be done for telecommunications networks? i.e. a call to anywhere on earth should cost the same as you only pay the cost of connecting to the nearest exchange?

  • Is paprika tasteless?

I'm from India and as you know, we use a lot of spices in our cooking. But recently, to make an Italian dish, I bought paprika - something I've never done before.

I always expected paprika to taste like a sweet and spicy chilly powder, but when I tasted it (straight from the bottle), it was absolutely tasteless! Is this how it's supposed to be? Does cooking it magically release some flavor or have I been cruelly cheated?

  • where do they get helium from?

My reasoning is that if helium is so light it can't remain in the atmosphere,ie it just floats off into space, and furthermore, it is inert, so it can't be extracted from any compounds, from where do they get helium?

NB: I don't have any Chemistry background, so try to keep your answers as simple as possible, though if it involves something complex, feel free to describe it.
