What size halter for an Arabian?
We just took in 10 Polish Arabian mares from that big seizure from Canterbury Farms in MD. So they have the halters on they came with (they were all haltered as part of the roundup, and just got whatever put on them), but some of them are too small to be on long (we need to leave the halters on because some are somewhat feral). We are a draft horse rescue, so any spare halters we have are way too big. I'm going to buy a few to donate... So should we go with pony size or cob for the Arabians? They're all pretty small, under 15hh (when you work with drafts, anything under 17hh is small, lol) and small heads.

I would get cob just to be safe. If you get leather halters you can always punch holes and make them smaller if need be. I know Arabians who wear full size horse halters and I know an Arabian that fits in a yearling halter. It's tough to say without seeing the horse's head in person.

I think pony would be a bit small and cob probably better; I'm going on UK sizes by the way, so not sure what sizing is like over there. You might be able to pick up some second hand Parelli halters from eBay - I know for sure they do an 'arabian' size halter!

I would buy cob halters with leather breakaway straps. Most Arabians will fit into these just fine, and with the leather strap you can always punch holes if necessary. Some places also sell Arabian sized halters. Both my Polish Arabian (14 hands) and my Arabian x Quarter Horse (14.1 hands) fit just fine in both Cob and Arabian halters.

I have Arabs, Use a Cob, although some of the older type polish heads can be fikle to fit. I prefer rope halters, but since these guyus are feral-ish Id grab some break aways and punch holes if need be. Best of luck!

A cob size is good, they do make but are hard to find Arabian size halters or ive seen people use yearling halters on arabians

I have three arabians and i would suggest cob pony sizes run a bit small anyway. i mean it mainly depends on the horse but i would go with cob better a little big then too small.
hope it helps (:

I would get cob- but I would throw in a few pony ones too. My rescue Arab only fit pony size- and she was around the 15hh mark.
So... both! But mostly cob.

probably a cob, they do sell Arab sized halters that are meant for their small head. Good luck with all of them!!
