Can people with type 1 herpes on their genitals spread the virus through saliva?

Somebody just told me they have type one herpes on their genitals and a few months ago I accidentally ate a piece of chicken off their plate at a barbecue that they had already started eating then placed near my identical looking plate. Now I am looking at every bit of shaving irritation suspiciously.

If they only have it on their genitals then NO you're not going to get herpes by sharing food.

There is a small chance of getting it if you shared utensils or cups with some one that has a visible cold sore on their mouth.

Just because they have it genitally that doesn't mean they have it orally too.

no you can not get herpes that way unless that person had a outbreak on her mouth or in it. so unless they rubbed there genitals on it i think you should be strait. but i would go get checked just to be certain you dont have herpes but the chances are very low
