Question about infant teeth?

My 8 month old son started teething around 3 months old and it lasted for about 2 months when he all of sudden stopped. No teeth popped up or anything. He's showing all the symptoms of teething again (about time lol) and I just had a silly question. I know it takes some time but is it like you put your little one to sleep and the next morning you've noticed that a tooth has cut through. Is it so gradual that you never even notice it? What should I kind of expect? I have all the tools to help him through it but any advise is welcome! Thanks in advance!

Update:

Wow! So many different stories lol! Now I'm even more anxious to see what happens! Good thing he's weaning himself lol!!! Thanks for all the answers!

It can definitely differ for each child. My 2 older kids had teeth coming in by 4 months old and they came in fast and more than one at a time. My 3rd and youngest son, he started teething about 2 months old but then it was bout 2 or 3 months later he finally got a tooth then it was the only one for another month or so then he had 3 pop in at the same time over night. but now he has back teeth coming in at 19 months old and its 3 at a time and they are coming in slow and giving him alot of pain. So just hang in there he will get his teeth but every child differs and each tooth can be different as far as how many and how fast at a time. Good luck!

My son was the same! He cut his first 2 teeth at 3 months, and then all of a sudden nothing until 6 or 7 months... he is now almost 10 months and has 10 teeth! I felt like they popped up out of nowhere. One day I would look in his mouth and there's nothing, then the next day there's a bump there, then all of a sudden a tooth is popping thru! My son has a mouth full :)

    Congrats on your little one!!

my 15 month old girl has 12 teeth already. 6 on top and 6 on bottom. the first 8 to 9 you could tell she was teething with cause she would get a fever and cry and chew on stuff. the other 4-5 it seemed just popped through in a matter of a weeks time. since she wasnt crying or chewing of things and not running a fever i didnt think to even check on them. she fell asleep in my arms the other day and i was looking at her teeth and was like OMG when did they get there...lol. i felt horrible like a bad mom cause i didnt notice but she is fine and didnt complain at all with them...so yea to answer your question there may be times that they just pop through without u noticing them. good luck

It so depends on the child. My 7 month old son has gone through the teething stage w/ the low fever, runny nose, chewing, etc. Yet, no teeth. He might take after me and my mom's side of the family. basically no teeth until past a year old. Yet he chews, so I hope he is normal. My mom got her first tooth at 18 months! Uh, NO!. I guess I gummed everything as a child. I want my son normal. :) It varies greatly in that first year, let me tell you.

As stated above, his mouth is probably sore from cutting the teeth. They are still erupting long after you can see them. Try not to make a big deal out of brushing right now since you don't want to create a problem with him being afraid to brush later. The "cold wash cloth to chew on" is the best advice given to keep the teeth cleaned and also ease the soreness for your son. Good luck and don't worry, his teeth won't decay as fast as you might think.

is can just take time. Try feeling for it. The gum will come to a point. It's gradual for sure.
