Keep Verizon $15 data plan when switching phones?
I currently have an original Motorola Droid with Verizon and I'm paying $15/month for 150MB data.
I'm tired of the Droid, so today I went to a Verizon store and wanted to buy a new smart phone at full price (Incredible 2) without restarting my contract, but the rep told me I would have to upgrade to the $30/month unlimited data plan if I switched, because my $15/month data plan was a promotion that's not available anymore.
So here's my question - if I buy a new phone on eBay instead of from Verizon, would I be able to switch over to it without having to increase my data plan? I've gotten phones on eBay before and had no trouble switching, but I wonder if this is different - even though technically the phone I have, and the phone I want to switch to, are both smart phones.

You will not be able to keep the $15/month plan if you switch phones regardless of where you get the phone. Any smart phone you activate will be required to have the $30/month data plan. The only way you can keep the $15/month plan is by keeping the phone you have.

Sorry once you activate your cell phone, Verizon will realize you have a smartphone based on the ESN number found on the inside of the cell phone. Verizon will know you have a droid cell phone and will require you with a unlimited data plan of 29.99 per month. No way out of it.
