how do cock-a-poos do in pairs?
We currently have a cock-a-poo, and she is almost 5 months old. I have recently run across an almost 5 month old cockapoo that my husband and I can't get out of our heads.
We would like to adopt him as well. I am wondering how these precious dogs do in pairs? A male and a female (no, we aren't breeding)... or 2 females? If we choose to get adopt this one, BOTH OF THEM WILL BE FIXED so no breedings occur.
Thank you in advance for your answers to my questions.
I want to also point out that I have tried PUREBRED dogs in my lifetime, and there were ALWAYS problems. Health problems, behavior problems, destruction problems, etc. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on purebred dogs only to have to have them put to sleep for health problems or having to re-home them because behavioral problems were impossible.
I am OKAY with the fact that my Cockapoo is a mutt/mongrel ... be it what it is ... she is a GREAT dog, and the breeder DID NOT charge me what purebred breeders charge. I was perfectly ready, willing and able to spend $400 on my "mutt" ... I bought a PUREBRED bulldog from a reputable breeder who I had to SUE in court because money is what mattered to them .... NOT the fact that they were breeding bulldogs with health issues that didn't show up until 4 1/2 months of age that caused her (and the littermates, we found out later) to be paralyzed, and of course, put to sleep. She didn't honor her "health guarantee" ... she didn't want to refund $

It depends on the individual dog, how well she is trained and socialised and her general personality, really. I'd suggest NOT getting another **Cocker Spaniel/Poodle cross** due to your current one being so young. You have a lot of training to do with your current dog. Work on training your current dog to a high standard. That way, it will be easier to train the second one because you'll have more experience and you can always use your current dog as a 'demonstrator'.
A few points to bare in mind, though-
1) If you want a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix (Cockapoos are not a breed i'm afraid!) or any other sort of mix don't go to a breeder. Breeders of these mixed breeds are in it for the money and the money only. Many don't care for the dogs, or the pups. Most of the offspring are unhealthy. You get one from a breeder then you lose more money than you would from a purebred from a responsible breeder. NO responsible breeder will breed mutts/mixed-breeds/mongrels- like it or not, that is what your current dog is, your future Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix is and any other designer dog is. They are the exact same as the mutts in the shelter.
2) Also, keep in mind that if you do get another Cocker Spaniel/Poodle cross it will NOT be the same as your current dog, temperament wise, looks wise, etc. Mongrels don't breed true like purebreds do.
As for gender it is a personal preference. Generally, it is said that if you have a male, get a female and if you have a female get a male however, i have 2 females and never once had a male and there were no problems at all. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A...
As i said, i recommend you wait. Train your current dog and have fun with her!

a male and female is the best option then 2 males and last best pairing is to females. Personally your pup is only 5 months old so getting another 5 month old is getting two pups at the same time and everyone will tell you that is always a bad idea.
