Identify mysterious electrical device?

Anybody have any clue what it is? We are NOT brave enough to plug it in!

    That is a clothes iron accessory. You clamp it to the board, plug the iron into the outlet on the clamp, and clip the cord through the thingy at the top. This keeps the cord lifted out of the way as you iron. It wasn't such a bad idea but these consumer versions of the device don't work very well. I haven't seen one of those in quite some time.

    I will say that I would take caution using it as it seems it uses an older plug which does not meet modern safety requirements. Not to menton I would not plug as high power device as a clothes iron into other than directly into a wall outlet.
