My dog split her nail what treatment can I give her to lessen the pain? and avoid infection?

My puppies (8 months) was outside and split one of her nail about halfway up the nail. It is not bleeding but it is an open wound underneath. I called the vet and left a message.

Wondering anyone experienced this before and what did you do?

The same thing happened to my dog outside too. What we did was we cleaned it out just with some warm water to get anything dirty out of there. Then we took so medical tape and cut it down the middle. To then rape it around the split nail to keep it closed. It was kinda like a bandage but better for the dog. Then in a few weeks the nail started to grown back completely back over and the dog was perfectly fine...:))))

If it fairly is chop up all the thank you to the backside, then you won't be able to truly trim it. And in case you attempt to tape it, you recognize that he's going to chew off the tape. If it have been me, i could purely watch it heavily till it grows out sufficient to trim it. till the canines shows indications of discomfort or an infection, in all threat it incredibly is ultimate just to observe the nail and enable nature take its direction. A conservative physique of innovations is generally the final element in a case like this. yet whilst it may ensue to start for sure bothering him a lot, there could be a situation that a vet could desire to guard.

I keep a product called Vet Aid on hand. I feel strongly that it is a must have for all animal owners. It would be great for a situation like this. Here's their page, so you can see for yourself before and after pictures. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vet-Aid-Products/126...
