1994 ford ranger problems. I'm stumped!?
I have a 1994 ford ranger 4.0, 4x4, lift kit, super swampers all that good stuff. I bought it thinking it needed a fuel pump but have since put on a new fuel pump/sending unit, crank position sensor, ECM, ignition module, ignition coil, battery, fuel pump relay, EEC relay but still no fuel pump and no spark. The fuel pump works fine but will not kick on with the ignition. I was messing around and put the positive of my battery charger on the positive post of the battery then put the negative of the charger on the ground of my test light, when I touched the test light to the frame or ground of the truck I got enough positive charge through the ground of the truck to light up the test light. WHAT IS THAT! Is it a bad ground or a short? Where do I start? I already checked all the main suspect lines and they are good, is there some easy place to start or some known failure with fords? please help before I but this truck to the ground....
No if i went from negative to positive THAT would be a completed circuit, Going from negative to negative should not produce a current. Please don't insult my intelligence, I'm asking for a solution from someone that knows more then I. Thanks

Lol, the light should have lit up, since you completed the circuit between the battery and the frame of the truck which is grounded to the battery. Are you sure your ASD relay is working? How about your ignition switch?

Yeah, the test light thing is only completing the circuit. Well, all I can suggest is the computer is bad. On my eclipse it was below and behind the stereo. I can't imagine what else it could be after doing all that. You can get rebuilt ones when you send in the old one.
There's also a clutch switch behind the clutch pedal on some vehicles that won't allow the car to start but I doubt you have that.

Your fuel pump sounds like it may be working as designed. It's built to supply fuel at a steady pressure to your engine. It doesn't necessarily have to turn on with the ignition at all times.
I suggest you get your truck in to a mechanic with the equipment to diagnose your lack of spark problem.
Don't be too surprise if it turns out to be something pretty simple. Sometimes those are the hardest to diagnose.
