AP Source: Dodgers lack cash for May 31 payroll
NEW YORK (AP)—Major League Baseball believes the Los Angeles Dodgers do not have enough money to make their end of May payroll, a person familiar with the team’s finances told The Associated Press.
The person spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because MLB’s investigation of the team’s finances under owner Frank McCourt is ongoing. The Los Angeles Times first reported that the Dodgers lacked the cash to make their May 31 payroll.
The person said that if the Dodgers don’t have the money, MLB would step in and make payroll.

Where do i even begin with this disappointment?
The fact that Mccourt sat there last week saying that they had no problems and that he thinks what Selig did was "not right?"
That he is too stubborn to see past his own personal life in order to protect the millions of fans?
That this will hurt our ability to sign people like Ethier and Kemp next year when they will have big years and demand more money. (and even if they get offered enough, why would they want to say?)
Or that fact that the dodgers organization is already seen in a negative light, and this certainly isn't helping.
I really hope this is the straw that breaks the camels back (that's how it goes right? haha). Enough is Enough is enough. seriously. This is getting old and im deeply worried about this team. You guys know me, and that i love the Dodgers. This just pisses me off. Its ridiculous that MLB even LET this idiot buy ANY team. Lets hope he gets thrown out for the better of the Dodgers and baseball for good.

Bud Selig is aware of the problem and appointed Tom Schieffer, a former Ranger exec, as the receiver for the Dodgers. At this time, the Dodgers cannot spend money without Schieffer's approval. That means Frank McCourt has to pay the chauffeur out of his own millions. McCourt borrowed $30 million from Fox against future tv payments to cover April's payroll. Now, baseball will cover the payroll for May and begin an orderly sale of the team. The Nationals were operated by the league until a buyer could be found and the New Orleans Hornets are currently operated by the NBA. The good news for LA baseball fans is that there is demand including a consortium put together by Steve Garvey. The only losers would be Frank McCourt who would only receive sale proceeds if all creditors are repaid and Davey Lopes, who as a Dodger coach would be working for part of his old double play combination. No confirmation that Ron Cey and Bill Russell would be brought in, but they're not denying it either.

Yes, when I first read that I just shook my head. It's a sad state of affairs when a ML team can't pay its employees. This will not be the last time. I think this is only the beginning. And no matter what state of affairs teh Dodgers are in right now, this will eventually start happenign to other teams because they are run by people with no sense of economics, not just for now but for the future. I have said this before and I'll say it again, at some point, it may not be for another 15 years, but MLB will implode on itself and do a reboot. They just can't exist the way they're going.

As a long-time Dodgers fan, it saddens me to watch their fall since the 2 consecutive NLCS appearances. Hoping the MLB takes over the team and McCourt leaves for good.

Wow that's sad, no wonder why they didn't bring Joe Torre back, and the fact that MLB had to take over the Dodgers I was baffled at first, but now I kinda see why. Hopefully MLB, will straighten out this mess, and keep the Dodgers competitive. I hate to see a MLB franchise go through this it's not fair to the fans at all.

Its very distrubing and sad and i think MLB did the right thing to step in because of this problem and hopefully that they will force Frank McCourt to sell the team off to someone thats interested in buying them with MLB supervising the finances of whoever does take them over

Dissapointing. What was the MLB thinking letting him own the team. Good thing I'm not a Dodger fan.

This a sign of things to come for other teams
if nothing is done like a hard salary cap
i the next few years teams could be contracted meaning there could be less teams
that is why MLB has all but taken over operations of the Dodgers

I think the real disturbing part is that some of the employees that have to get paid aren't just the players....they still have to pay the people working at the stadium as concessions and ushers and people like that. I work at a stadium so it would not be cool to work for a team that can't pay.....MLB does need to step in and pay though. These are real people that need money.

Well, financial status of the team is not our business though. But as dodgers fans we can't keep ourselves from sympathizing their situation. Nonetheless, we better watch their upcoming game. The best thing that we can do is to support them all the way.. you can also take your tickets online at http://www.dodgertickets.org/
